Love the methodology of this book. There are no measurements, just suggested ingredients, with lots of alternative options, accompanied by tons and tons of photos, both of the ingredients (so you can get the right brand) and every single step, teaching you how the dish should look and taste. Inexperienced cooks might be a bit intimidated by the lack of teaspoons and tablespoons, but if you are willing to take the plunge, this book will inspire you to take his recipes and make the dishes your own, since there is so much room for adding your personal touch. Yes, all recipes are 100% vegan. And yes, it has all the VBMC antics, the dagger-shaped chef's knife, or my personal fave, the skull-domed blender lid. I am 52 years old and not an expert in black metal, but my 22-year-old son tells me that all the recipe titles are actually song titles, slightly altered, and that is such a hoot. This book seems to be a true labor of love. I have recommended it to a lot of people.
Full disclosure. I haven't tried any of the recipes yet. I've thumbed through the book and all the dishes look killer and I can't wait to try them. Being a metalhead, I love the "Seitanic" theme of it. If you get the kindle version, the text will be very small if you're using an ipad mini but it's all images that you can expand easily to make them more readable. It's probably a lot better on a full size ipad. It's also probably a lot better to get the physical book version which I plan to do at some point. I saw it displayed in a youtube video and could tell that the quality of it was excellent. I think it even be a great coffee table book which I wouldn't normally say about a cookbook.
i recently went vegan and had no idea where to start.i bought this book to help give me some ideas, and LOVE LOVE LOVE it.it's basically a book of base recipes, to which you add whatever you like. there are no measurements, but instructions on how to prepare and cook everything, so it's really fantastic.i HIGHLY recommend this book to EVERYONE!
Not only is it a fantastic tool for anyone looking to venture into the mysterious realm of mock meats, but it's also a seriously hilarious read. Don't just buy this book for the recipes. Actually READ the instructions. I promise you won't be sorry.
This book is fantastic if you want to learn how to make your own vegan food. It isn't a cookbook for people who want cookie cutter ideas presented as concise recipes. These take a little time and thought and give you a variety of options to try. This is for someone who wants to explore vegan food!!
Hella good (and metal) cookbook. Dishes are varied and delicious. Recipes are not typical with measurements so expect to experiment a little and doing a bit of tasting to fit your palate
I absolutely love this cook book. I've had this book less than a few weeks and have already made many of the recipes in the book and they ALL have turned out perfectly and delicious. I cannot recommend this book enough. I sure hope Brian comes out with Seitanic Spellbook #2!
As the only Vegan in a house of meat and dairy eaters, cooking meals can be complicated sometimes. These recipes are really geared towards anyone! I'll follow any of these recipes, and make some real, and/or faux-meat on the side, and my family digs it.Helps, also, that we're metalheads.HAIL SEITAN.
